A Note on Telegram API: AltGram is an unofficial client that uses the Telegram API. To understand the core data handling, we strongly recommend you also read the Telegram Privacy Policy, as it governs much of the data processing.

The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions, unless otherwise defined here.

Summary of Data Use:

As a messaging app, AltGram's core function is to transmit information on your behalf. This means that when you choose to share data, we process it to deliver your message.

  • User-Controlled Sharing: Data like your name, phone number, location, live location, photos, files, and contacts are only collected and shared with other users* when you explicitly choose to do so (e.g., sending a photo to a friend).
  • Service Improvement: To operate and improve the app, we may also process your email, device ID, and technical/usage history (like crash logs or analytics).

All messages are encrypted, and we strive to handle all transfers securely. A messenger cannot function without storing and sharing the data you choose to send. We are not responsible for external attacks or hacks, but we do our best to protect your information.

AltGram is built on the Telegram API. This means we do not run our own servers for your chat data. We do not transfer your personal user data or device information to any third party outside of the Telegram API's functions. For more details on how your core chat data is handled, please read the Telegram Privacy Policy.

AltGram requires this permission to verify your account via a phone call. We (via the Telegram API) will place a call to your phone. The app will then check your call log to see if a call was received from our verification number. If the call is detected, your account is automatically confirmed.

This is a standard Telegram verification method (used instead of an SMS code) and is permitted by Google Play. The permission is used only to confirm the verification call and not for any other purpose. (See: telegram.org/privacy).

We request location permissions to enable features like sharing your static location or live location with friends you choose. This permission is also used for the "People Nearby" feature.

  • You, the user, are always in control of whether to share your location.
  • If you use the "Live Location" feature or "Make Myself Visible" in People Nearby, the app will use your location data in the background (even when the app is closed) for as long as you keep those specific features activated.

As a messenger, AltGram allows you to send and receive any file type, including .apk (Android application) files. This permission is required to allow you to open and install APK files that you receive from your contacts or download through the app. This is a standard function for file management and browsing within the Telegram ecosystem.

For a better experience, while using our Service, some information may be retained on your device, while other information is processed by us or third-party services.

We want to inform you that whenever you use our Service, in case of an error in the app, we (through third-party products) may collect data and information on your phone called Log Data. This Log Data may include information such as your device Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our Service, the time and date of your use of the Service, and other statistics.

We may employ third-party companies and individuals due to the following reasons:

  • To facilitate our Service;
  • To provide the Service on our behalf;
  • To perform Service-related services; or
  • To assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

We want to inform users of this Service that these third parties may have access to your Personal Information. The reason is to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. However, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose.

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. In the case we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to do necessary actions.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.

To use AltGram, you must be at least 18 years old or the age of majority to legally enter into a contract under the laws of your home country, and be legally permitted to use the App by the laws of your home country.

  • It is forbidden to use other people's names and photos and to misuse the identity of people's information.
  • You must not use nude or violent images.
  • Descriptions and biographies should not contain violence and nudity.
  • Trying to create an unsafe environment or sending any advertisements is prohibited.
  • Insulting people's belief, gender, and attitude is prohibited.
